High protein, high energy animal feed supplement

During spring fields of yellow flower are visible in the New Zealand countryside from Southland to Hawkes Bay. These yellow fields are likely to be oilseed rape grown by Arable Farmers on contract for Pure Oil NZ.

Rapeseed meal is the co-product to rapeseed oil after the crop has been crushed at the crush plant.  Pure Oil NZ operates a cold pressing process which means no added chemicals or heat is applied during oil extraction process.

Rapeseed meal facts

  • Protein solubility of the cold pressed meal is high and therefore suitable for monogastrics.
  • Lower extraction temperatures of cold pressing process leaves amino acids such as lysine at higher levels as compared to solvent extracted meal.
  • Cold pressing process leave higher residual fat levels in the meal increasing the energy value of the meal.
  • A good source of minerals compared with other oilseed meals. Particularly rich in phosphorus, which is important for production and fertility.
  • Benefits of rapeseed meal are best captured in a balanced feed ration.
  • Glucosinolates levels within the oilseed rape varieties (and rapeseed meal) are not considered anti-nutritional for livestock.
